Pakistan on Saturday urged the Afghan Taliban regime to take clear and verifiable action against terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil, rejecting Kabul\u2019s accusations that Islamabad was blaming Afghanistan for its own security failures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Saturday, Pakistan described the Afghan Taliban\u2019s allegations as \u201cdiversionary\u201d and said they did not address Islamabad\u2019s long-standing security concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBlaming Pakistan\u2019s security institutions does not absolve the regime of its responsibility to prevent Afghan territory from being used for terrorism against Pakistan,\u201d the ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pakistan called on the Afghan Taliban to end any support, facilitation or tolerance of groups such as the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and their affiliates. It also urged Kabul to ensure that Afghan territory was not used to plan or launch attacks against Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ministry said Pakistan\u2019s concerns were backed by international reports, including the United Nations Security Council\u2019s 16th report on sanctions monitoring and a US report on Operation Enduring Sentinel covering January to March 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the ministry, the US report stated that the Afghan Taliban continued to allow the TTP to operate from Afghanistan. It also said the group had gained greater freedom and support, contributing to an increase in attacks against Pakistan. The report estimated the TTP had between 4,000 and 6,000 fighters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement also referred to repeated attempts by armed militants to cross the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, the recovery of foreign-made weapons from militant groups and the deaths of Afghan nationals and militants during Pakistan\u2019s counterterrorism operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pakistan further raised concerns over the alleged facilitation of terrorist groups by Afghan Taliban officials, including those in Kandahar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSuch concerns cannot be dismissed through blanket denials; they require credible explanations and verifiable action,\u201d the ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It stressed that Pakistan\u2019s security measures were aimed at protecting its people from terrorist threats, not targeting the Afghan population. The ministry said peace and stability in both countries were closely linked and that ordinary Afghans would benefit equally from a region free of terrorism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pakistan also rejected attempts to portray its security concerns as hostility towards Afghanistan, saying it would continue taking all necessary steps to protect its citizens, sovereignty and territorial integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, Islamabad said it remained open to responsible engagement with Kabul based on mutual respect, clear commitments and practical action against terrorist networks and cross-border infiltration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement came a day after Afghan Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid rejected Pakistan\u2019s accusations and blamed Pakistani security agencies for failing to maintain peace at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement posted on X on Friday, Mujahid said Pakistani officials were accusing Afghanistan to mislead the public and avoid responsibility for their own security failures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He claimed Afghanistan had neither the interest nor the resources to create instability in Pakistan, arguing that insecurity in a neighbouring country would also harm Afghanistan economically, socially and politically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mujahid also accused Pakistan of using its resources to destabilise Afghanistan, saying such actions were damaging regional stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Terrorism remains a major point of disagreement between Islamabad and Kabul. Pakistan has repeatedly called on the Afghan Taliban to stop militant groups from using Afghan territory to carry out attacks inside Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite several rounds of talks, the two sides have yet to resolve their differences over the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
