ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has busted an alleged international network involved in producing and selling child sexual abuse material, an official said on Friday.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, NCCIA Additional Director Muhammad Shoaib Khan said the agency had conducted a month-long investigation into the suspected international network with assistance from foreign law enforcement agencies.

He said the investigation had uncovered a case in which a father was allegedly involved in sexually exploiting his own young children and recording videos for sale through online platforms.

According to Khan, the children were around four to five years old, and the videos were allegedly traded through secret Telegram groups, with payments made in cryptocurrency.

The investigation also uncovered animal abuse linked to the network, he said.

Khan said the agency was investigating links to Islamabad, Multan and southern Punjab, while raids had been conducted to trace and arrest other suspected facilitators involved in the network.

He described the case as unprecedented in Pakistan and said the agency was working to establish the full extent of the network and identify others involved.

The official did not disclose the identities of the suspect or the children, citing the need to protect the victims.

In a separate case, the NCCIA arrested a suspect in Islamabad over the alleged harassment and blackmail of a minor girl from Karachi, Khan said.

According to the agency, the girl had been subjected to persistent harassment and blackmail for the past two to three years and had attempted suicide three times. She was receiving treatment at a hospital, the official said.

Khan said the agency acted after the victim’s family contacted it for assistance and traced and arrested the suspect within hours.

He said the operation demonstrated the agency’s ability to coordinate across regions and take action against cybercrime suspects regardless of where they were located.

The NCCIA would pursue cases involving the harassment and exploitation of women and children with a zero-tolerance approach, he added.

Khan urged victims of cybercrime and online blackmail not to suffer in silence, assuring them that the agency would assist them in seeking justice.

The additional director also warned social media users against uploading or circulating illegal and objectionable material, saying those involved could face legal action.

He said the agency’s cybercrime control operations were continuing against individuals involved in online exploitation, harassment and the distribution of prohibited content.

Khan advised the public not to share one-time passwords, bank account details or other personal information with strangers. He also cautioned users against fake websites displaying fraudulent contact numbers, which could be used to deceive people and gain access to their bank accounts.

The NCCIA’s helpline, 1799, was operational around the clock for reporting cybercrime complaints, he said, urging victims to contact the agency rather than remain silent.
