KARACHI: By-elections for 13 local government seats were held across nine districts of Sindh on Sunday, with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and independent candidates securing victories on various seats, according to unofficial and non-final results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Polling took place in Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Dadu, Sujawal, Sukkur, Ghotki, Naushahro Feroze, Mirpurkhas, and Jacobabad districts. Voting began at 8:00 AM and continued peacefully until 4:00 PM under the supervision of election authorities and security personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to unofficial results received so far, the PPP won one seat in Hyderabad while an independent candidate secured victory on another seat in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Hyderabad\u2019s Town Municipal Corporation Qasimabad area, elections were held for chairman and general ward member seats in two union councils. In Union Council 43, independent candidate Muhammad Ali Sheikh won the chairman seat after securing 960 votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, in Union Council 49, Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Alam Khan emerged victorious for the Ward Member-II seat by obtaining 335 votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Election officials stated that the polling process in Hyderabad remained largely peaceful, with voters casting ballots without major disruptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Sukkur, unofficial and non-final results indicated that the PPP candidate won the vice chairman seat in Union Council Nasirabad. The party also performed strongly in other districts during the by-elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to preliminary reports, PPP candidates also secured victories in Jacobabad and Sehwan. Meanwhile, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) won a seat in Pano Aqil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Independent candidates showed strong performance in Mirpurkhas, where they reportedly won two seats in the local government by-elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The by-polls were conducted to fill vacant local government positions caused by resignations, deaths, disqualifications, or other administrative reasons. Election authorities had made security and administrative arrangements to ensure a transparent and orderly voting process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials from the Election Commission monitored polling activities throughout the day, while law enforcement agencies were deployed at polling stations to maintain peace and security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Political workers from different parties remained active outside polling stations, assisting voters and monitoring the election process. Turnout varied across districts, with some areas witnessing moderate voter participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The local government system in Sindh plays an important role in municipal administration, development projects, sanitation management, and delivery of basic civic services. As a result, even by-elections for local seats often attract significant political attention from major parties and independent groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Political analysts believe the by-election results provide insight into the current political strength of parties at the grassroots level, particularly in urban and semi-urban areas of Sindh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Election Commission is expected to release official and final results after completing the consolidation and verification process.
