The government of Punjab has refused to lend Rs12.52 billion from the provincial kitty for holding local bodies (LBs) elections in the province. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a response to the federal government, the provincial government has opined that the amount on elections should be taken from the Federal Collective Fund. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It has argued that it is the Center which has to finance the holding of local bodies\u2019 polls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The finance ministry had demanded money from the provincial government at the request of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for holding the elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The provincial government had initially showed its willingness to release funds, but later refused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, departments of local bodies, law and finance have also supported the idea of receiving funds from the federal government for the purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
