The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday initiated contempt of court proceedings against a member estate of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) who failed to appear in court, saying he was sick.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
IHC Chief Justice (CJ) Sarfaraz Dogar rejected an unconditional apology tendered by Member Estate Zaman Wattoo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
His counsel Nazir Jawad had offered an apology on behalf of his client, which the court rejected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the hearing, CJ Dogar remarked that the court would first done with the contempt of court petition before hearing the main plea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He ordered the prosecutor to come prepared on the next hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The chief justice wondered that the member estate had not learnt to respect the court even after spending 60 years in service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Issuing contempt of court notice to Wattoo, the CJ asked him to explain why contempt of court proceedings are not initiated against him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He ordered the member estate to file his reply within seven days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Deputy District Prosecutor Adnan Ali was appointed as a prosecutor in the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The CJ said that the member estate had been ordered to appear in court on September 16 in person. \u201cHowever, he sought exemption from appearance in the court, saying he was unwell,\u201d the chief justice said, adding despite that, he appeared in the court of another judge, Justice Inam Ameen Minhas. \u201cWattoo\u2019s failure to show up on September 16 is a contempt of court. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
