Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said he would challenge the imposition of governor\u2019s rule and the state of emergency in the Peshawar High Court, while Mahmood Khan Achakzai announced plans for peaceful protests and a district-level democratic struggle against the government’s actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking alongside Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Gohar described October 11 as a black day in Pakistan\u2019s democratic history and demanded the withdrawal of measures taken by the government that day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had rejected the emergency and governor\u2019s rule, accusing the government of undermining democratic principles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gohar said the chief minister had been held in custody and questioned objections to his return to the Chief Minister\u2019s House after leaving the sit-in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The chief minister used to come to the CM House in the evening and conduct government business there as well. There should have been no objection to him coming to the CM House after leaving the sit-in,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said PTI remained part of parliament for now and would continue raising its concerns at every available forum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Our parliamentary party will meet tomorrow, and we will raise our voice at every forum,” Gohar said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said PTI supporters were in jail because of their political ideology and accused the government of displaying obstinacy despite remaining in contact with the party until the last moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gohar also questioned the sudden reshuffling of government machinery and urged the authorities not to divide the public over terrorism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Terrorism is a cancer for Pakistan,” he said, adding that democracy was Pakistan\u2019s destiny and the federation could only become strong when its provinces were strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking on the occasion, Mahmood Khan Achakzai accused the government of violating constitutional principles, undermining parliament and suppressing political opposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Tyranny and oppression reign supreme everywhere. Promises were made that a democratic system would prevail in this country, and the Constitution guaranteed it,” Achakzai said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the Constitution recognized parliament as the source of power but accused the authorities of interfering in the February 8 elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Achakzai alleged that armed elements interfered in the electoral process and that people’s consciences were bought. He said PTI represented the public but was deprived of its electoral symbol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He accused the government of coming to power by intimidating a population of 260 million, describing the alleged actions as the “ultimate example of state-sponsored terror.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Achakzai further alleged that votes obtained through the disputed electoral process were subsequently used to curtail judicial independence and introduce arbitrary constitutional amendments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Using these very votes, the judiciary\u2019s wings were clipped, and the Constitution was mutilated with arbitrary amendments,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said PTI was not even being allowed to voice its grievances despite the actions taken against it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Achakzai accused the government of acting as though it could engage in corruption and intimidation without facing any challenge. He said the Constitution provided for treason charges against those who tampered with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Referring to Balochistan, he accused the authorities of overlooking alleged widespread plunder in the province, saying no action was being taken because its chief minister enjoyed the government’s favor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Achakzai called for a united front to defend the rights of the public and those facing oppression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“A united, unshakeable front should stand for the oppressed, and a solid, impenetrable wall should stand for the people,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He announced that opposition parties would be instructed to organize protests according to their capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We will announce a democratic struggle in every district. Our protests will be peaceful,” Achakzai said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that massive demonstrations would be organized in districts where a state of emergency had not been imposed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite announcing protests, Achakzai expressed willingness to negotiate with the government for the sake of democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We are ready for any kind of negotiation for a democratic Pakistan. We will continue our struggle against this system while simultaneously engaging in negotiations,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Achakzai also demanded permission to meet PTI founder Imran Khan, offering to provide a written undertaking that no details of the meeting would be disclosed afterward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He claimed the government wanted to force Imran Khan to leave, but the PTI founder had refused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Referring to the political situation, Achakzai said the voting rights of 40 million people had been mocked and stressed that Pakistan could progress only when parliament was strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Responding to claims that he was unwilling to hold meetings, Achakzai said he was ready for dialogue but would not visit the Prime Minister’s House or the National Assembly speaker’s office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I am willing to meet anywhere, but we will not go to the offices of the speaker or the prime minister,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also criticized the National Assembly speaker, comparing his authority to that of a junior military rank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The National Assembly speaker is not even a havildar. He is a lance naik, not even a havildar anymore,” Achakzai said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He maintained that the Constitution required statements made in parliament to be recorded and described the government’s actions as an attack on the constitutional order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This is an attack on Pakistan’s Constitution, and defending it is the duty of every individual,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas accused the government of violating the Constitution and undermining the country’s political and democratic foundations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We are facing deceivers and liars. The consensus-based Constitution is being rendered controversial,” Raja Nasir Abbas said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He criticized the treatment of political workers, saying they were being likened to terrorists, and accused those in power of violating constitutional principles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raja Nasir Abbas called for cooperation with the people of the province in the fight against terrorism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Referring to Balochistan, he described the province’s law and order situation as dire and called for an emergency to be imposed there, saying conditions were far worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He warned that the situation had escalated significantly and could deteriorate further without public support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
