Giving a big decision in the favour of retired government employees, the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Saturday said that a departmental inquiry will cease to be effective two years after the retirement of a government officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In its ruling, the LHC said that an amendment to the PEEDA Act, made on February 25, 2026, applied only to the cases that would surface in future, and not to the ones, which had now been closed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Accepting the application filed by former CEO Health Narowal Dr Khalid Javed, the court ordered the Punjab government to immediately release his pension, saying that a retired government employee could not be made to pay the price for the failure to complete inquiries on time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The court declared the ongoing inquiry against the ex-CEO health under the PEEDA Act and withholding of his pension null and void. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The health department had been withholding the pension of the ex-CEO since 2022 in view of the inquiry against him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
