The commission had alleged that such statements could intimidate election officials and affect the conduct of the by-election.

Afridi had subsequently approached the Peshawar High Court, challenging the ECP proceedings and questioning the commission’s jurisdiction and maintainability of the case.

In January 2026, the high court had restrained the ECP from passing any final adverse order against the chief minister while allowing the commission to continue proceedings.

The court later extended the interim protection in June, directing the ECP not to issue any order adverse to Afridi until further orders.

On October 3, the high court gave Afridi’s counsel a final opportunity to present arguments, after the case had been adjourned several times. The bench had warned that no further adjournment would be granted and fixed October 7 for hearing.

The ECP had maintained that its proceedings had already been heard on merits and argued that the high court petition had become ineffective.

The dispute stems from the NA-18 Haripur by-election held on November 23, 2025. The ECP had taken notice of Afridi’s speech ahead of the poll, while the chief minister later said his remarks had been taken out of context and denied that he was campaigning for any candidate.

The ECP subsequently rejected allegations of irregularities in the Haripur by-election, saying that complaints about the conduct of the poll should be taken before the election tribunal rather than through public statements.

PAK SOUCH MEDIA GROUP

Daily Pak Souch Newspaper Sukkur – Daily Pak Special Newspaper Karachi – Daily Pak Today Newspaper Karachi – Daily Pak Jazbo Newspaper Sukkur

Head Office : Ayub Gate Shaikh Muhalla Near Rabbania Masjid Sukkur

Karachi Office : Office No. 1901-B, 19th Floor Saima Trade Tower (B) Block I.I Chandigarh Road Near Jung Press, Shaheen Complex & National Museum of Pakistan Karachi Sindh Pakistan.

Contact : 03009319022

Website 1 : https://paksouch.com/
Website 2 : https://sindhi.paksouch.com/
Website 3 : https://pakjazbo.com/
Website 4 : https://urdu.pakjazbo.com/

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Wednesday dismissed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s petition challenging an Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) notice issued over..

[3

post-17310","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-pakistan
https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Pak-Souch-Social-Media-Poster-30-2.png",800,947,false
https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Pak-Souch-Social-Media-Poster-30-2-150x150.png",150,150,true
https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Pak-Souch-Social-Media-Poster-30-2-253x300.png",253,300,true
https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Pak-Souch-Social-Media-Poster-30-2-768x909.png",768,909,true
https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Pak-Souch-Social-Media-Poster-30-2.png",800,947,false],"1536x1536":["https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Pak-Souch-Social-Media-Poster-30-2.png",800,947,false],"2048x2048":["https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Pak-Souch-Social-Media-Poster-30-2.png",800,947,false
admin
["GET
