Khairpur, October 7, 2026: Under the strategic vision of the Worthy Vice Chancellor, Meritorious Prof. Dr. Yousuf Khushk, a delegation of students from Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, visited District Council Shikarpur under the Shehri-CBE Civic Education Project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The visit was arranged on the invitation of Sardar Zulfqar Ali Khan Kamariyo, Chairman, District Council Shikarpur, to provide students with practical exposure to local governance, democratic institutions, civic participation and public service delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The delegation was led by Dr. Ali Raza Lashari, Coordinator Students\u2019 Societies Center, and Prof. Dr. Mujeeb ur Rehman Abro, Chairman, Department of Media and Communication Studies, while Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Legal Consultant, SALU, also accompanied the delegation. Representatives of Shehri-CBE, including Mr. Sarwer Khalid and Mr. Rehan, also participated in the visit and supported the civic education initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
District Council officials, including Chief Officer Syed Jawad Hussain Shah and Accounts Officer Syed Qasim Raza Shah, warmly welcomed the delegation. The programme commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Syed Qasim Raza Shah briefed the students on the structure, functions and responsibilities of the local government system, with particular reference to the role of the District Council in public service delivery. An interactive question-and-answer session followed, during which students raised questions about local governance, taxation, municipal services, development activities and service delivery. The officials responded to the queries and shared practical insights into the functioning of local government institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari highlighted the evolution of local government in Pakistan, including the Basic Democracies system and subsequent reforms, with particular reference to Sindh. He emphasized the importance of democratic processes, grassroots participation and effective local institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr. Anwar Mahar of NARI Foundation Sukkur highlighted the role of civil society organizations in complementing government efforts and supporting communities in improving public service delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ms. Sadia, faculty member of SALU, highlighted the active participation of female students and teachers in co-curricular and civic engagement activities, noting that such initiatives help develop leadership, communication and civic participation among students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The session was attended by Director Taxes Athar Adeel Shaikh, Taxation Officer Sher Zaman Khan Durrani, Engineer Mehfooz Soomro, Waqar Ali Soomro, Muhammad Kaif Samo, Imran Ali Soomro and Khalil Ahmed Junejo, along with other officials of District Council Shikarpur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A large number of SALU students participated in the visit, gaining firsthand knowledge of local governance and democratic institutions. The activity reflects the university\u2019s commitment to promoting civic education, youth participation, democratic values and responsible citizenship, while connecting classroom learning with practical civic engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
