ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Saturday summoned India\u2019s Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires Dr Satyanjal Pandey to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to lodge a strong protest over the killing of two Pakistani civilians<\/a> by personnel of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the International Border in Kasur\u2019s Bedian Sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident occurred on October 2, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Islamabad said the BSF personnel had used \u201cunprovoked lethal force\u201d against unarmed civilians, calling the use of force wholly unjustified and grossly disproportionate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe tragic loss of two precious lives\u201d was deeply regretted, the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pakistan also rejected any attempt to describe the deceased as \u201cinfiltrators\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Foreign Office said the incident constituted a serious violation of fundamental human rights, including the right to life, and raised concerns over the protection of civilian life under international law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Islamabad called on India to conduct an immediate, transparent and credible investigation into the incident and take appropriate disciplinary and legal action against those found responsible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India was also asked to formally communicate the findings of the investigation and action taken to the government of Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pakistan further urged India to respect fundamental human rights and international law, strictly observe relevant bilateral arrangements and established border procedures, and exercise maximum restraint in such situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Foreign Office also called for effective measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two civilians killed near Kasur<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

According to security sources, two unarmed Pakistani civilians were killed and another injured a day earlier in alleged firing by BSF personnel near the Pakistan-India international border in Kasur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sources said three local residents from Ladhar village had moved only a few steps beyond a border pillar when BSF personnel allegedly opened fire on them without warning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three men were unarmed and none had attempted to cross the border fence, the sources said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deceased were identified as Azmat Rasool, son of Ataullah, and Mohsin Jutt, both residents of Jattan Wali Haveli in Ladhar. Another man was injured in the firing, according to the sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sources described the incident as unprovoked firing and said it violated the border agreement and established standard operating procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indian media reports, meanwhile, described the three Pakistani civilians as infiltrators. The sources rejected the characterisation, saying none of the men had attempted to cross the border fence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pakistan-India tensions<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The incident near Kasur came a day after Islamabad challenged Indian reports that its forces had killed a former Pakistani soldier allegedly working for a militant group in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Pakistan\u2019s military produced the soldier alive at a news conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours come less than 18 months after their most serious military confrontation in years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Relations deteriorated sharply after an April 2025 attack in Pahalgam killed 26 people<\/a>. India blamed Pakistan for supporting the attackers and launched strikes inside Pakistan the following month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Islamabad denied involvement and responded militarily, with Pakistan saying it brought down seven Indian fighter jets<\/a> before a ceasefire ended four days of fighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
