KARACHI :<\/strong> The three-day Sindh Mehran Cup Boys and Girls Boxing Championship, organized by the Sindh Government\u2019s Sports and Youth Affairs Department, officially began at Kakhri Ground in Lyari. Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Sindh Manwar Ali Mahesar inaugurated the championship by cutting a ribbon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A large number of sports personalities, athletes and organizers attended the opening ceremony. Director Sports Asad Ishaq, Sindh Boxing Association\u2019s Asghar Baloch, SO Ali Dino Gopang, DSO Akhlaq Memon and other relevant officials and office-bearers were also present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the opening ceremony, athletes from different divisions demonstrated their skills, while organizers briefed participants about the arrangements and competition schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a spokesperson for the Sindh Sports Department, more than 150 boxers from Karachi, Sukkur, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Larkana and Mirpurkhas divisions, as well as police teams, are participating in the three-day championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The championship features eight weight categories for men and three for women. Men will compete in the 47kg, 50kg, 55kg, 60kg, 65kg, 70kg, 75kg and 80kg categories, while women boxers will compete in the 48kg, 50kg and 55kg categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The championship will provide athletes with an opportunity to showcase their abilities and establish themselves at the provincial level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing the opening ceremony, Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Sindh Manwar Ali Mahesar said Lyari is known as the hub of football in Pakistan, but the area also has significant talent in other sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said it was encouraging to see female athletes participating enthusiastically in boxing alongside male competitors. Mahesar said that when sports grounds remain active, society becomes healthier, adding that the department wants to see more young people engage in sports and healthy activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said Lyari has considerable sporting talent among both young men and women, which needs to be provided with greater opportunities. The Sindh Sports Department, he added, is taking steps to provide young athletes with maximum opportunities to advance in their careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mahesar said the Sports Department has allocated a total of Rs100,000 in prize money<\/strong> for successful and runner-up male and female athletes in the championship finals. The prizes are intended to encourage athletes and motivate them to work harder in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the enthusiasm of young athletes and their strong participation in sports demonstrate that Sindh possesses considerable sporting talent and is moving towards a healthier society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The secretary said the government is committed to providing young people with better sporting opportunities and facilities so they can utilize their abilities in positive activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further said Sindh Sports Minister Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mahar has also directed that more sporting events be organized in Lyari and other areas. The Sports Department is taking steps in accordance with these directives to organize competitions in various sports and provide young athletes with more opportunities to demonstrate their talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Competitions in different weight categories will continue throughout the three-day Sindh Mehran Cup Boxing Championship, with prizes to be distributed among outstanding performers during the concluding ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
