A report submitted by the Adiala Jail officials to an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad on Thursday informed that as per registered and digital record, they had not yet received powers of attorney of human rights activist, Imaan Mazari, and her husband Hadi Ali Chattha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the hearing of a petition filed against the non-provision of powers of attorney in the case, judge Tahir Abbas Sipra remarked that Chattha\u2019s power of attorney had been presented in the court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the jail deputy superintendent replied that the power of attorney did not bear his signatures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking on the occasion, Zainab Janjua, one of the counsels for the couple, said that she had a meeting with the deputy superintendent this Monday. \u201cAnd he told me that the powers of attorney would be processed in a day or two.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Riasat Ali Azad, another lawyer, said that it was on this court orders that the couple had been sent to jail. \u201cIf we have the power of attorney of Chattha, and not of Imaan, does this imply that she is not present in jail?\u201d he questioned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He went on to say that this was a unique case in which powers of attorney had not been received despite the passage of one week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Azad said that if anything bad happened to either Imaan or Chattha, these would be the jail officials who would be responsible for that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Judge Sipra then asked, \u201cWhere did you get Chattha\u2019s power of attorney from?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zainab replied that it was obtained from the sessions court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Azad said this was an issue that was related to the wellbeing of a human being. \u201cNo one knows. Perhaps they have killed Imaan in jail.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Shireen Mazari, Imaan\u2019s mother, seconded Azad, and said that her daughter might have either been killed or moved to an undisclosed location. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Later, the court adjourned the case\u2019s hearing until September 26.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
