He stated that one year earlier, Pakistan had achieved an “unparalleled success” by defeating attempts aimed at undermining the country’s national resolve and sovereignty.

Field Marshal Asim Munir said the conflict, which lasted from the night of May 6–7 until May 10, 2025, was a defining moment in Pakistan’s modern military history. According to him, India had attempted to challenge Pakistan’s dignity and national honor, but the armed forces responded with unity, professionalism, and determination.

“This was not just a war between two nations,” he said. “It was a decisive battle between two ideologies, and the enemy was taught an unforgettable lesson.”

The army chief maintained that the May 2025 confrontation was not an unexpected development but rather part of a longer pattern of hostility. He accused India of repeatedly leveling “baseless and fabricated allegations” against Pakistan in the past, adding that every hostile attempt had been defeated through the country’s military preparedness and national unity.

Field Marshal Munir claimed that India’s ambitions exceeded its actual capabilities. He said New Delhi sought to isolate Pakistan diplomatically and militarily while attempting to alter the balance of power in the region. However, he stressed that Pakistan would never allow such objectives to succeed.

“The enemy dreams of changing the regional balance through military aggression and diplomatic isolation of Pakistan,” he said. “But this dream is far greater than its actual capacity and strength, and Pakistan will never allow it to materialize.”

He further stated that Pakistan’s armed forces had never been intimidated by displays of power and would continue defending the country’s sovereignty under all circumstances.

Paying tribute to civilians who lost their lives during the conflict, including women and children, the field marshal said the sacrifices of martyrs were a sacred trust for the nation. He added that the armed forces viewed their strength as a responsibility and considered victory a blessing from God.

According to the army chief, the conflict was not won solely on the battlefield but also through the combined efforts of the Pakistani nation, state institutions, and leadership. He praised citizens for standing united during the crisis and said the public had demonstrated unwavering commitment to national defense.

“When enemy missiles struck, people from all walks of life came forward to support the defense of the homeland,” he remarked.

Field Marshal Munir also highlighted the role of the Pakistan Air Force, saying Pakistani fighter pilots had demonstrated exceptional capability during what he described as one of the longest and most effective aerial engagements of modern times. He claimed that Pakistani aircraft successfully targeted enemy installations and forced Indian warplanes to remain grounded.

He said India had suffered heavy human and material losses during the conflict and warned that the consequences of such losses would continue to affect the country in the years ahead.

The army chief stated that Pakistan’s missile systems and air force successfully struck more than 26 military targets. He asserted that Pakistan’s defense system was now fully capable of countering any external aggression.

“Any future misadventure against Pakistan will not have limited consequences,” he warned. “Its effects will be dangerous, long-lasting, and painful.”

Discussing the future of warfare, Field Marshal Munir said modern conflicts were increasingly based on multi-domain operations involving drones, cyber warfare, long-range weapons, and artificial intelligence technologies. He emphasized the need for continuous modernization of Pakistan’s military capabilities to meet future security challenges.

The army chief also addressed regional security concerns, particularly the issue of terrorism. He accused India of supporting terrorism after realizing that conventional warfare against Pakistan was no longer feasible.

Regarding Afghanistan, he said Pakistan had only one demand: the complete elimination of terrorist sanctuaries operating from Afghan soil. He praised the sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces, law enforcement agencies, and the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, who, according to him, had been fighting terrorism courageously for over two decades.

“We will avenge every drop of innocent Pakistani blood,” he declared. “This war against terrorism will continue until the last terrorist is eliminated.”

Field Marshal Munir also reiterated Pakistan’s continued support for the people of کشمیر, saying the country would maintain political, diplomatic, and moral backing for Kashmiris on every international platform.

He added that Pakistan had recently played a constructive diplomatic role in facilitating a ceasefire in Lebanon and was currently hosting important peace negotiations through what he described as responsible and balanced diplomacy.

Before the ceremony, chiefs of the armed forces visited the Martyrs’ Memorial at GHQ, laid floral wreaths, and offered prayers for fallen soldiers. A smartly turned-out contingent of the armed forces also presented a salute to the military leadership.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the armed forces remained fully prepared to confront both internal and external threats with the support of the nation. The military’s media wing added that success in the “Battle of Truth” reflected the preparedness, dedication, and professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces and further strengthened public confidence in the military leadership.

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Armed Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir said that the “Battle of Truth” fought in May 2025 was not merely a military confrontation between two countries but a decisive clash between two opposing ideologies, in which Pakistan emerged victorious after delivering what he described as a crushing response to enemy aggression.
