The government has decided to strengthen laws governing social media in Pakistan amid growing concerns over child exploitation and obscene content online. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ministry of Interior has prepared proposals concerning age limits for social media use and measures to curb obscenity allegedly promoted under the guise of family vlogging. The ministry will consult all relevant stakeholders before finalising the draft legislation and regulatory proposals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A meeting will be held at the ministry to discuss the proposed measures and determine the next course of action. Representatives from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), and federal and provincial police authorities will participate in the consultations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the key proposals under consideration is the introduction of a minimum age limit for social media users. The move comes in response to an increase in reported incidents involving child exploitation and obscene material on social media platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials will also discuss measures to prevent the misuse of family vlogging as a cover for producing or promoting inappropriate content. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government is also considering whether certain social media platforms should be banned, following similar measures adopted by other countries. During the upcoming meeting, officials will review social media policies implemented in various countries, including Australia, to assess possible regulatory options for Pakistan. A detailed review of child exploitation and obscenity cases will also be presented to participants to help guide the consultation process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The final decisions regarding age restrictions, platform regulation and other proposed measures will be taken after consultations with the relevant stakeholders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
