Pakistan has summoned India\u2019s Charge d\u2019Affaires to lodge a strong protest over an Indian Navy vessel\u2019s alleged violation of Pakistan\u2019s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), the Foreign Office said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Foreign Office, an Indian naval vessel moved dangerously close to a Pakistan Navy ship and maneuvered aggressively in Pakistan\u2019s EEZ on September 15, resulting in contact between the two vessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident occurred as the Pakistan Navy was conducting its biennial Sea Spark-26 exercises in the country\u2019s EEZ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exercises began on September 1, while the Foreign Office said the Indian vessel and a helicopter onboard had repeatedly attempted to enter the area of Pakistan Navy\u2019s exercises since September 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
INS Kolkata makes contact with PNS Hunain<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Foreign Office said the situation escalated on September 15 when INS Kolkata made a dangerous maneuver and came into contact with PNS Hunain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pakistan said PNS Hunain attempted to avoid the collision, but contact with the Indian vessel nevertheless occurred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to the Foreign Office, INS Kolkata then increased its speed and left the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pakistan described the Indian vessel\u2019s action as \u201chighly provocative\u201d and said the incident could have led to a serious crisis between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Foreign Office said the professional and responsible conduct of the Pakistan Navy helped prevent the situation from escalating further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pakistan cites international law, 1991 agreement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Pakistan told the Indian Charge d\u2019Affaires that it strongly rejected the Indian Navy\u2019s alleged provocative action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Foreign Office said the maneuver constituted a serious violation of international law and the 1991 bilateral agreement on advance notification of military exercises, maneuvered and troop movements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pakistan urged India to strictly adhere to international law and bilateral agreements aimed at preventing untoward incidents at sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Foreign Office said Pakistan\u2019s Charge d\u2019Affaires in New Delhi would also lodge a protest with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pakistan also called on the international community to urge India to refrain from aggressive and irresponsible actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pakistan urges restraint<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Foreign Office said South Asia could not afford further tensions and instability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pakistan urged India to avoid actions that could undermine regional peace and stability and stressed the importance of responsible conduct in maritime areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Foreign Office reiterated Pakistan\u2019s position that adherence to international law and bilateral agreements is essential for maintaining regional peace and preventing
