Despite repeated complaints and the passage of several days, the burnt transformer has reportedly not been replaced by the concerned officials of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO), leaving residents without a reliable electricity supply during the ongoing hot and humid weather.

According to social activist Shahid Soomro, residents of Khalid Society are experiencing an extremely difficult situation because of the prolonged power disruption. He said that the transformer serving the area had burnt down seven days ago, but the concerned XEN Qasimabad and SDO HESCO Sub-Division-I Qasimabad had yet to take effective steps to replace it.

Speaking to electricity consumers and residents of Khalid Society, Shahid Soomro expressed serious concern over the worsening power situation in Qasimabad and Hyderabad. He said that people were already struggling with high temperatures and humidity, while prolonged power outages had added significantly to their difficulties.

Soomro said residents welcomed the decision announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding limiting electricity load-shedding to two hours a day. He described the decision as a positive step toward providing relief to the people of Pakistan and helping them overcome the longstanding problem of excessive load-shedding.

However, he alleged that the situation on the ground in Hyderabad and Qasimabad was very different from the announced policy. According to him, residents were still experiencing between 10 and 12 hours of load-shedding every day despite the government’s stated policy.

He questioned why the announced reduction in load-shedding was not being reflected in the daily lives of electricity consumers in Qasimabad. He said that people were facing prolonged outages at a time when extreme heat had made electricity essential for basic comfort and daily activities.

The social activist further stated that continuous load-shedding had disrupted the normal routine of residents and negatively affected businesses in Qasimabad. He said that prolonged electricity outages were causing significant hardship for households and traders, while there appeared to be no visible reduction in the duration of power cuts.

He also raised concerns about the Qasimabad and Anwar Villas feeders, alleging that they had still not been made express feeders. According to him, the failure to resolve the feeder-related issues was contributing to repeated interruptions in electricity supply across several areas.

Soomro also pointed toward damaged electricity cables near the SSP Kareem Chowk area of Qasimabad Phase-I. He said that the damaged cables had become another source of recurring electricity problems for local residents, with consumers frequently facing disruptions in their power supply.

The residents have called for urgent intervention by the relevant authorities to address the electricity crisis in Qasimabad. They particularly urged the authorities to take immediate action regarding the burnt transformer serving Khalid Society so that a normal electricity supply could be restored.

Soomro appealed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take immediate notice of the prolonged load-shedding being experienced by citizens in Hyderabad. He said that the government’s stated policy of reducing load-shedding should be implemented effectively so that residents could receive genuine relief.

He also urged the HESCO Chief Executive Officer to take immediate notice of the situation in Khalid Society and direct the concerned officials to replace the burnt transformer without further delay.

According to the residents, the absence of a functioning transformer has made their daily lives increasingly difficult. The problem is particularly serious during periods of high temperatures, when electricity is needed for fans, water pumps, refrigeration and other basic household requirements.

The residents maintained that they should not have to endure prolonged power outages when the government has already announced measures aimed at reducing load-shedding. They called for greater accountability within the electricity supply system and urged HESCO officials to respond promptly to complaints involving damaged infrastructure.

The issue has also raised concerns about the condition of electricity infrastructure in parts of Qasimabad. Residents believe that damaged cables, overloaded or faulty transformers and feeder-related problems need to be addressed through a coordinated maintenance strategy rather than temporary measures.

Soomro emphasized that residents should not be forced to repeatedly approach officials for the replacement of essential electricity equipment. He said that once a transformer is reported as burnt, the relevant department should take prompt action to restore supply and minimize inconvenience to consumers.

He further appealed to the authorities to ensure that the government’s directives concerning load-shedding are implemented at the local level. He said that consumers in Hyderabad and Qasimabad deserve the same relief promised by the government and should not continue facing excessive outages.

The residents of Khalid Society have therefore demanded immediate replacement of the burnt transformer, repair of damaged electricity cables and resolution of the issues affecting the Qasimabad and Anwar Villas feeders.

They also urged HESCO officials to improve coordination with local consumers and respond promptly to complaints. Residents said that restoring a stable electricity supply would provide much-needed relief to families and businesses suffering from the current power crisis.

The residents hope that the HESCO Chief Executive Officer and other senior officials will take immediate notice of the situation and ensure that the transformer is replaced at the earliest. They have also appealed to the prime minister and relevant authorities to monitor the implementation of the announced load-shedding policy in Hyderabad.

For the residents of Khalid Society, the immediate priority remains restoration of electricity and an end to the prolonged disruption. They have called for urgent and practical action rather than further assurances, saying that the ongoing situation has become unbearable for the community.

HYDERABAD: Residents of Khalid Society, Qasimabad Phase-I, have been facing severe difficulties for the past seven days following the failure of their electricity transformer.
