SUKKUR:<\/strong> The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) City Sukkur organized a Quran recitation and prayer ceremony to pay tribute to the martyrs of the 1983 Movement for the Restoration of Democracy (MRD)<\/strong> who sacrificed their lives for the restoration of democracy and the rights of the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ceremony was organized to pray for the departed souls of those who lost their lives during the MRD movement. PPP City Sukkur President and Deputy Mayor Dr Arshad Mughal<\/strong> presided over the gathering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A number of senior party leaders, local representatives, workers and other participants attended the event. Those present included Town Chairman Maki Shah Muhammad Din Rajput<\/strong>, Information Secretary Ghaznfar Nazar Ansari<\/strong>, Ejaz Rajput, Gulzar Bhutto, Chaudhry Hasnain and Huzoor Bakhsh Mirani.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chairpersons and vice chairpersons of union councils, party workers and other members of the local community also participated in the ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the event, participants paid tribute to the sacrifices of the MRD martyrs, recognizing their struggle for democracy, political rights and the restoration of representative government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Special prayers were offered for the departed souls, seeking forgiveness and the elevation of their ranks in the hereafter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The participants recalled the sacrifices made during the 1983 MRD movement and highlighted the importance of remembering those who lost their lives during the struggle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The gathering also provided an opportunity for PPP workers and local leaders to reaffirm their commitment to democratic values and the protection of public rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Movement for the Restoration of Democracy (MRD)<\/strong> was a major political movement in Pakistan during the 1980s, with opposition parties and activists campaigning for the restoration of democratic rule during the military government of General Zia-ul-Haq.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sindh played a particularly significant role in the MRD movement, with widespread protests and resistance reported across the province in 1983. Many activists and political workers were arrested, while others lost their lives during the movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PPP leaders have continued to commemorate the sacrifices of MRD activists, particularly in Sindh, where the movement had a strong presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
