DHAKA:<\/strong> Saima Wazed, daughter of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the World Health Organization\u2019s (WHO) Regional Director for South-East Asia, has resigned from her position following investigations into allegations of fraud and other irregularities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to foreign media reports, Wazed submitted her resignation on Wednesday after investigations were launched by both the United Nations health agency and Bangladeshi authorities into allegations concerning her conduct and financial affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The WHO confirmed that a committee had recommended her removal from office one day before she submitted her resignation. The development brings an end to her tenure as the WHO\u2019s regional director amid continuing scrutiny over allegations that she has strongly denied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wazed assumed the position in 2024 for a five-year term. However, her tenure was subsequently overshadowed by allegations raised by Bangladeshi authorities and an internal review by the WHO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was placed on unpaid leave toward the end of last year as investigations into the allegations continued.
