DADU:<\/strong> An awareness seminar on the protection of women from harassment at the workplace was organized at the Army Model School and College Dadu as part of an ongoing campaign to promote legal awareness regarding workplace harassment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seminar was held at 10:00am on the directions of the Honourable Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, Justice (Retired) Shahnawaz Tariq<\/strong>. The main objective of the programme was to educate students, teaching staff and administrative personnel about laws concerning workplace harassment, their legal rights and the procedures available for filing and resolving complaints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

District Adviser Dadu Ghulam Mustafa Memon<\/strong> participated in the seminar as a legal expert and delivered a detailed briefing on the relevant legislation. Principal of Army Model School and College Dadu Liaquat Ali Mirani<\/strong>, members of the teaching staff, administrative officers and a large number of students attended the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Liaquat Ali Mirani appreciated the organization of the awareness seminar and said that creating greater awareness about laws designed to protect people from workplace harassment was an important need of the present time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized that educational institutions must provide a safe, respectful and dignified environment for students and employees. He said spreading legal knowledge was essential for ensuring equality and creating workplaces and educational environments free from harassment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Principal Mirani said that students and staff should be aware of their legal rights so that they could identify inappropriate conduct and know what steps could be taken if they encountered harassment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his detailed address, District Adviser Ghulam Mustafa Memon briefed participants about the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010<\/strong>, as well as subsequent legal amendments to the legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He explained that the purpose of the law was to protect working people from harassment, safeguard their dignity and honour, and provide an effective mechanism for the fair and timely resolution of complaints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the district adviser, the law provides a framework for dealing with harassment complaints in both public and private institutions. He explained that organizations are required to establish internal inquiry committees to address complaints and conduct investigations in accordance with the relevant legal provisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also briefed participants about the complaint mechanism, confidentiality requirements and the importance of ensuring a fair and impartial inquiry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ghulam Mustafa Memon said that the law provides legal avenues for affected individuals to seek redress. In the event of harassment, a complainant can approach the relevant inquiry committee within the institution and, where applicable under the law, can also approach the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The district adviser stressed that people should be aware of these mechanisms and should not hesitate to use the legal channels available to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the seminar, participants were also informed about different forms of harassment. These included verbal, physical, psychological and digital harassment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The speakers explained that harassment could take different forms and that individuals should remain aware of conduct that violates their dignity, safety or rights. Participants were also briefed on the process of submitting a complaint, the importance of providing relevant evidence and the measures available for maintaining confidentiality during proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The legal expert explained the various stages involved in seeking legal redress and responded to questions concerning the rights of complainants and the responsibilities of institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An interactive question-and-answer session was also held during the seminar. Students, teachers and administrative staff asked questions about different aspects of the workplace harassment law and its practical implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

District Adviser Ghulam Mustafa Memon provided detailed answers to the questions and clarified various legal provisions for the participants. The session enabled students and staff to better understand the procedures available to them and the responsibilities of institutions in preventing and addressing harassment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants appreciated the initiative and emphasized the importance of continuing awareness programmes in educational institutions. They said legal awareness could play a significant role in preventing harassment and encouraging individuals to report incidents through appropriate channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The speakers also stressed the importance of creating an environment based on dignity, equality, safety and respect. They said preventing harassment was not only the responsibility of a particular department or committee but required collective efforts by institutional heads, teachers, students, administrative staff and the wider community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Concluding the seminar, District Adviser Ghulam Mustafa Memon said that ensuring an environment based on respect, protection, equality and the rule of law was a shared responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He encouraged participants not to remain silent in the event of harassment but to use the legal procedures available to them and approach the relevant forum for assistance and redress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said greater awareness of the law would empower individuals to protect their rights and would contribute to the creation of safer and more dignified educational and professional environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
