ISLAMABAD:<\/strong> Pakistan has strongly condemned the demolition of a historic mosque in Saharanpur, India, calling for an immediate end to what it described as the desecration and destruction of Muslim places of worship in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement issued by the spokesperson for Pakistan\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad expressed deep concern over the demolition of a centuries-old mosque in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on September 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Foreign Office spokesperson described the demolition as a condemnable act and said the destruction of historic religious sites raised serious concerns about religious intolerance, prejudice and hatred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The spokesperson also referred to the demolition of the Babri Mosque in 1992, saying that the incident remains a symbol of religious intolerance, discrimination and hatred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pakistan said the destruction or desecration of Muslim places of worship in India must come to an immediate end. The Foreign Office stressed that religious sites should be protected and that communities must be allowed to practice their faith without fear or discrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement called attention to what Pakistan described as a continuing pattern of actions affecting Muslim religious sites and institutions in India. Islamabad urged the relevant Indian authorities to ensure the protection of places of worship and respect the religious rights of Muslim citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pakistani Foreign Office also appealed to the international community to take immediate notice of what it described as the systematic persecution and exploitation of Muslims by Indian authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pakistan urged the international community to play its role in protecting religious freedom and preventing further incidents involving the destruction or desecration of places of worship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement emphasized the importance of safeguarding religious heritage and respecting the rights of religious communities. Pakistan said that historic mosques and other religious sites form an important part of the cultural and religious heritage of the region and should be protected rather than demolished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Foreign Office maintained that attacks on places of worship could deepen religious divisions and undermine efforts to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence. It called for measures to prevent further incidents and ensure accountability where religious sites are damaged or destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pakistan\u2019s condemnation comes against the backdrop of longstanding tensions between the two neighboring countries over a range of political, security and human rights issues. Pakistan called upon Indian authorities to protect Muslim places of worship and respect the religious sentiments and rights of the country\u2019s Muslim population. It also urged India to take steps to prevent the recurrence of incidents involving the destruction or desecration of religious sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Foreign Office further urged the international community to closely monitor developments and raise concerns regarding the treatment of Muslims and the protection of their religious sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Islamabad reiterated that respect for religious freedom, protection of places of worship and equal treatment of religious communities are essential for social harmony and peaceful coexistence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pakistani government said the international community should take immediate notice of the concerns it had raised regarding the treatment of Muslims in India and encourage the Indian authorities to uphold their responsibilities toward all religious communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Foreign Office concluded by reiterating its call for an immediate halt to the desecration and demolition of Muslim places of worship in India.
