Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday paid tribute to the martyrs and veterans of Pakistan\u2019s armed forces, and to their families, on Defence and Martyrs\u2019 Day, reaffirming the country\u2019s commitment to national unity, sovereignty, security, and peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In separate messages on September 6, the prime minister said the day was \u201ca glorious chapter in our national history\u201d, reminding the nation of the \u201cunparalleled resolve, unity and sacrifices\u201d demonstrated by the Armed Forces and people in defence of the homeland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said Defence and Martyrs\u2019 Day provided an opportunity to honour martyrs and veterans who made immense sacrifices to safeguard Pakistan\u2019s security, sovereignty and independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDespite the enemy\u2019s undeclared aggression and numerical superiority on 6 September 1965, the professionalism and operational preparedness of Pakistan\u2019s Armed Forces inflicted a humiliating and resounding defeat upon it on all fronts,\u201d Shehbaz said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zardari said September 6 held a \u201cmemorable place\u201d in national history, recalling the sacrifices made to safeguard Pakistan\u2019s freedom, sovereignty and national security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the martyrs of 1965 demonstrated \u201cunparalleled resolve, courage and devotion\u201d in defending the homeland and defeating the enemy\u2019s \u201cnefarious designs on every front\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shehbaz said history bore witness to the exceptional professionalism and courage of the Armed Forces during the 1965 war, while the Pakistani nation demonstrated \u201cremarkable unity, resilience and steadfastness\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shehbaz said that in Marka-e-Haq, in line with the \u201cglorious tradition of valiance\u201d, the Armed Forces, under the professional strategy of Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu and Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf, delivered a response to Pakistan\u2019s \u201cage-old adversary\u201d that would be remembered for generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur traditional adversary, along with Fitna al Khawarij and Fitna al Hindustan, continues to pursue its nefarious designs against Pakistan, but these hostile forces are facing successive and decisive defeats,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the \u201csinister designs\u201d of hostile forces seeking to destabilise Pakistan through hybrid warfare would be \u201cresolutely defeated\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zardari said there could be \u201cno compromise\u201d on Pakistan\u2019s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that in every conventional and unconventional war imposed by the enemy, the Armed Forces had demonstrated their \u201cvigilance, preparedness and unwavering commitment\u201d to defending the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cQuaid-e-Azam described Kashmir as Pakistan\u2019s jugular vein,\u201d he said, adding that India\u2019s \u201creprehensible conduct and continued intransigence\u201d on the dispute remained major impediments to lasting peace, development and prosperity in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zardari said India must desist from promoting terrorism in Pakistan through its proxies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
