{"id":14320,"date":"2026-09-06T09:13:38","date_gmt":"2026-09-06T09:13:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/paksouch.com\/?p=14320"},"modified":"2026-09-06T09:13:39","modified_gmt":"2026-09-06T09:13:39","slug":"pml-n-should-please-its-allies-but-avoid-making-sindh-a-scapegoat-sharjeel-memon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paksouch.com\/?p=14320","title":{"rendered":"PML-N Should Please Its Allies but Avoid Making Sindh a Scapegoat: Sharjeel Memon"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>KARACHI:<\/strong> Sindh Senior Minister <strong>Sharjeel Memon<\/strong> has criticised Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and Defence Minister <strong>Khawaja Asif<\/strong> over his recent remarks concerning the creation of new administrative units and provinces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Responding to Khawaja Asif, Memon said the PML-N could please its political allies, but should avoid turning Sindh into a \u201cscapegoat\u201d in the debate over administrative restructuring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sindh Assembly passed eight resolutions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sharjeel Memon said the Punjab Assembly had passed resolutions supporting the creation of a <strong>Saraiki province twice<\/strong>, while the Sindh Assembly had passed resolutions <strong>eight times opposing the creation of additional provinces within Sindh<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He argued that the position of Sindh\u2019s elected representatives on the issue was therefore clear and should be respected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe PML-N should please its allies, but refrain from making Sindh a scapegoat,\u201d Memon said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His comments come amid an intensifying political debate over whether Pakistan\u2019s existing administrative structure should be reorganised through the creation of new provinces or administrative units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Khawaja Asif\u2019s criticism of PPP<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Khawaja Asif had earlier criticised the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), saying that the party supported the idea of a Saraiki province in Punjab but raised the issue of \u201cSindhu Desh\u201d whenever the creation of administrative units in Sindh was discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The defence minister accused the PPP of following a \u201cdouble standard\u201d on the question of new administrative units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Asif said the government would explain the PPP\u2019s alleged contradictory position when the appropriate time came.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Political tensions over new provinces<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The exchange comes as proposals for restructuring Pakistan\u2019s administrative system have gained renewed attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several federal ministers have recently discussed the possibility of creating new provinces or strengthening smaller administrative units. Supporters argue that Pakistan\u2019s population growth and governance challenges require decentralisation and greater administrative efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The issue, however, remains particularly sensitive in Sindh.
