PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved a plan to provide free electric scooters to female students and working women in Peshawar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. During the meeting, the chief minister directed relevant authorities to take immediate steps to ensure the provision of electric scooters to eligible women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a briefing given to the meeting, female students and working women in Peshawar will be the first beneficiaries of the initiative. The scheme will initially focus on the provincial capital before being expanded to other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in subsequent phases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government says the initiative is intended to improve women’s access to education and employment by providing them with a safer and more convenient means of transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking during the meeting, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said electric scooters would help women travel safely to educational institutions and workplaces. He emphasized that better transportation facilities could make it easier for women to continue their education and participate in the workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The chief minister also highlighted the environmental benefits of the initiative. According to him, increasing the use of electric scooters could help reduce air pollution because electric vehicles do not produce the same direct exhaust emissions as conventional petrol-powered motorcycles and scooters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government is expected to take further administrative steps to implement the program, including determining eligibility criteria and arrangements for distributing the scooters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first phase will focus specifically on women in Peshawar, while the second phase is expected to extend the program to other districts across the province. The expansion could allow more female students and working women to benefit from affordable and environmentally friendly transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The initiative is being presented as part of efforts to improve women’s mobility and encourage greater participation in education and employment. For many students and working women, transportation can be a major challenge, particularly when safe and affordable public transport is not readily available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The immediate focus, however, will remain on Peshawar. Authorities have been directed to begin preparations for the first phase, after which the experience of the initial rollout can be used to expand the program to other districts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
