{"id":13736,"date":"2026-03-28T06:54:37","date_gmt":"2026-03-28T06:54:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/paksouch.com\/?p=13736"},"modified":"2026-03-28T06:54:39","modified_gmt":"2026-03-28T06:54:39","slug":"iranian-soccer-players-hold-schoolbags-in-solidarity-with-slain-girls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paksouch.com\/?p=13736","title":{"rendered":"Iranian soccer players hold schoolbags in solidarity with slain girls"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Iran\u2019s men\u2019s national soccer team wore black armbands and held schoolbags as their anthem played ahead of \u200ba match in Turkey on Friday in what a team \u200cofficial said was a protest over the killing of schoolgirls on the first day of the Iran war.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Iran were playing a friendly against Nigeria in the resort town \u200bof Belek ahead of the World Cup in the U.S., \u200bMexico and Canada where their participation is in doubt over the \u2060conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The men lined up holding pink and purple bags with \u200bribbons on them \u2013 a reference to the attack on the Shajareh Tayyebeh \u200bSchool which Tehran says killed more than 175 people including children and teachers on the first day of joint U.S.-Israeli strikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe players are holding the school \u200bbags close to their heart in remembrance of the 165 girls \u200bthe Americans killed in an Iranian school,\u201d a media official for the Iranian team \u200ctold \u2060Reuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>U.S. military investigators believe it is likely that U.S. forces were responsible but have not yet reached a final conclusion or completed their investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this month, some of Iran\u2019s women\u2019s soccer team stayed quiet during the \u200bnational anthem at \u200ban Asian Cup \u2060match, leading state TV in Tehran to brand them \u201ctraitors\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>U.S. President Donald Trump said earlier this month that \u200bwhile Iran\u2019s national team were welcome to play \u200bin the \u2060U.S., it might not be appropriate for their \u201clife and safety.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Iran\u2019s football federation said it is in discussions with soccer\u2019s world governing body FIFA about \u2060moving \u200bits World Cup matches to Mexico from \u200bthe U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The squad will also play Costa Rica on Tuesday in another friendly in \u200bTurkey.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Iran\u2019s men\u2019s national soccer team wore black armbands and held schoolbags as their anthem played ahead of \u200ba match in Turkey on Friday in what a team \u200cofficial said was a protest over the killing of schoolgirls on the first day of the Iran war.
