Will Remain One Province, Says CM Murad Ali Shah

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has strongly rejected calls for the creation of new provinces or administrative divisions in Sindh, saying the province will remain united and its future cannot be decided outside the Sindh Assembly.

Speaking during a discussion on the issue of new provinces and administrative units, Murad Ali Shah said Sindh is one province and will remain so.

He criticized individuals outside the province for attempting to influence decisions concerning Sindh, saying that “businessmen sitting in Lahore” would not decide the future of the province.

Decision Must Be Taken in the Assembly

The chief minister said no individual could determine the future of Sindh simply by making a speech on television, raising the issue in court or discussing it at a seminar.

He emphasized that any such decision would have to be taken through the provincial assembly.

Addressing the Speaker, Murad Ali Shah called for a detailed debate on the issue, asking that members be given an opportunity to express their views on proposals concerning new provinces and administrative units.

He also recalled Sindh’s historical role in the creation of Pakistan, noting that the Sindh Assembly had passed the resolution for Pakistan.

The chief minister declared that as long as even a single person remained alive to defend the province, “nothing will happen” to Sindh.

Speaker Backs Unity of Sindh

Sindh Assembly Speaker Owais Qadir Shah also supported the position that Sindh would remain united.

He said members could debate the issue for as many days as they wanted, but stressed that Sindh had been one province and would remain one.

His remarks came amid a broader debate over proposals for the creation of additional provinces and administrative units in Pakistan.

Nisar Khuhro Raises Questions

PPP leader Nisar Khuhro, who moved the adjournment motion on the issue, said he had brought the matter before the assembly to determine who wanted to “divide Sindh.”

Khuhro said voices had emerged from the federal level arguing that the system had collapsed and that new provinces were therefore necessary.

He also referred to comments made by a federal minister several days earlier suggesting that new provinces would be created.

Khuhro said those advocating the creation of new provinces should first read the Constitution and understand the constitutional procedure required for creating a new province.

The debate reflects renewed political sensitivity surrounding proposals for administrative restructuring in Pakistan.

For the Sindh government and PPP leadership, however, the issue is closely linked to the province’s territorial and political identity.

Murad Ali Shah’s remarks made clear that the Sindh government does not accept the idea that decisions regarding the province can be imposed through statements made outside the provincial legislature.

He maintained that any constitutional or territorial change involving Sindh would have to be addressed through the proper constitutional and parliamentary process.

The chief minister’s comments also underlined the Sindh government’s position that the Sindh Assembly is the appropriate forum for discussing and deciding matters concerning the province’s future.

The debate is expected to continue in the provincial assembly as lawmakers consider the political, constitutional and administrative implications of proposals for new provinces and administrative units.

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has strongly rejected calls for the creation of new provinces or administrative divisions in
