BISHKEK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that water is essential for the survival of the region and represents a guarantee for the future of coming generations, stressing that its use for political purposes or as a tool of pressure is unacceptable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State summit in Bishkek, the prime minister said the organization had become an important platform for promoting global peace and stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that the completion of 25 years of the SCO was an important milestone and reaffirmed that Pakistan is an active and responsible member of the organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prime Minister Shehbaz said the international environment was facing growing geopolitical tensions and increasing challenges to peace and stability. In this situation, he described the SCO as a symbol of the collective determination of its member states to address shared regional and global challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He emphasized Pakistan\u2019s commitment to the peaceful resolution of disputes and respect for international law, saying that dialogue and diplomacy should remain central to resolving conflicts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Water Security<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A major focus of the prime minister\u2019s address was water security. He described water as fundamental to life in the region and said its availability was an instrument of political pressure. According to the prime minister, using water for political objectives is unacceptable and regional water directly linked to the future of generations to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
