ISLAMABAD: Key details of the inquiry report into the PIMS tragedy have emerged, with sources saying the committee has recommended removing 10 officers, including the Executive Director and other officials concerned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to sources, several senior officers were held responsible for negligence and serious lapses. The report has also recommended removing five senior-most officials and replacing them with competent officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The inquiry committee reportedly found that PIMS was being operated in an unprofessional manner without an effective administrative structure. It recommended establishing a permanent governing board to ensure proper oversight and management of the hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report also rejected claims that more than 15 babies were present in the nursery when the fire broke out. According to the committee, the nursery had a capacity of no more than 15 babies. The report attributed the explosion following the fire to oxygen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The inquiry also highlighted inadequate medical facilities at PIMS and observed that the hospital lacked facilities meeting international standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sources said the final decision regarding the removal of responsible officials will be taken by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The prime minister has summoned a meeting in Lahore to receive a detailed briefing on the inquiry report. Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal and other relevant officials are expected to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, sources in the Ministry of Health said PIMS Executive Director Dr. Imran Sikandar had been directed to step aside from his position until the comprehensive investigation into the tragedy is completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
