ISLAMABAD: Pakistan\u2019s Parliament has demanded a transparent investigation into the tragic PIMS incident that resulted in the deaths of 14 newborn babies, with both the National Assembly and Senate approving motions seeking the formation of special parliamentary committees to investigate the tragedy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The development came amid heated discussions in both houses, where lawmakers raised serious concerns over hospital management, accountability and the government\u2019s response to the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The opposition also expressed a lack of confidence in the inquiry committee formed by the government, arguing that the investigation should be conducted through a parliamentary mechanism to ensure transparency and accountability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal assured lawmakers that no individual responsible for the tragedy would be spared. He said all officials involved would be held accountable and would be called to answer for their actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mustafa Kamal told parliamentarians that officials would be brought before the authorities and warned lawmakers against attempting to influence decisions taken against those found responsible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also appealed to opposition members to provide guidance and a practical roadmap instead of limiting the discussion to the formation of committees and setting deadlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar told the house that the government\u2019s inquiry committee was expected to submit its initial report to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the same day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said a detailed report would be prepared within seven days, after which the government would take necessary action based on the findings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The law minister urged lawmakers to avoid politicising the tragedy and instead present concrete and practical recommendations for improving hospital safety and management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident has generated strong reactions across political parties, with lawmakers demanding accountability for the deaths of the newborns and questioning the safety standards and administrative arrangements at PIMS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former National Assembly speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf also expressed concern over the deaths of the newborns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
