Rawalpindi: An anti-terrorism court judge in Rawalpindi left the courtroom after expressing anger over an uproar during the hearing of a case against Aleema Khan related to the November 26 protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the hearing, the prosecution questioned Aleema Khan\u2019s witness, Fatahullah Barqi, about whether he knew about alleged illegal properties belonging to Aleema Khan abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Defence lawyer Faisal Malik objected to the question, saying that it was unrelated to the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prosecutor Zaheer Shah then questioned Aleema Khan about alleged properties in Dubai and New Jersey. Aleema Khan denied owning any illegal property and said the properties in question had been described as benami properties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The prosecutor asked whether the Supreme Court had imposed a fine on her over the alleged benami properties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Aleema Khan replied that former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar had issued a decision against the law and that she was later cleared by a tribunal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The prosecutor further asked whether she had paid a fine of Rs30 million following the Supreme Court\u2019s orders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Aleema Khan responded that Rs29.4 million had been deposited, but the tribunal later cleared them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the proceedings, Aleema Khan requested the court to record her statement. When the court began recording her statement, the defence counsel raised another objection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exchange led to an uproar in the courtroom. Judge Amjad Ali Shah expressed anger at defence lawyer Faisal Malik and questioned why he should refuse to record Aleema Khan\u2019s statement if she herself wanted to give it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The judge then left his seat and walked out of the courtroom following the disruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
