U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly spoke by phone with Pakistan\u2019s Army Chief and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, last week, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sources told Reuters that Trump\u2019s main request was for Pakistan to use its influence to convince Iran to return to the negotiating table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The call reportedly took place before Field Marshal Munir\u2019s visit to Tehran, where he met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other senior officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the visit, Pakistan discussed ways to reduce tensions, reopen the Strait of Hormuz and find a peaceful solution to the conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pakistan has good relations with both Iran and the United States, which gives Islamabad an opportunity to help with dialogue between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reuters reported that the United States wanted Pakistan to use its relationship with Iran to encourage further negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pakistan has also said that recent talks with Iran made important progress and could help create a path toward lasting peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
