The Supreme Court Registrar has assured Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Sardar Latif Khosa that a note will be sent to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi for numbering and fixing the PTI\u2019s contempt of court petition for hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking after meeting the Supreme Court registrar on Monday, Barrister Gohar said he had come to meet Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, but the meeting could not take place because of the chief justice\u2019s engagements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Barrister Gohar said he and Latif Khosa met the registrar, who assured them that a bench would be formed to hear the petition. He added that the bench could also be constituted online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Gohar, the registrar also assured them that a note would be sent to the chief justice for fixing the case for hearing. Gohar said PTI founder Imran Khan did not make deals, arguing that if he wanted to make a deal, he would not have spent three years in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also said Imran Khan did not want to remain in hospital for even a minute and only wanted his medical tests to be conducted. Gohar expressed hope that the Supreme Court would fix the case for an early hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two days ago, on August 22, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) filed a contempt of court petition in the Supreme Court against the government for not shifting former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad, in violation of the apex court order dated August 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, federal law minister, and federal information minister respondents, the party, in its petition, prayed for the issuance of show-cause notices to those who committed contempt of court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The party also sought the transfer of Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital. Besides that, it requested the appointment of a judicial officer to ensure that the court order was implemented in letter and spirit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Supreme Court on Tuesday had ordered to shift incarcerated former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, who has been in jail since 2023, to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for medical treatment within the next two days, following concerns over his health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A three-member Supreme Court bench, headed by Justice Shahid Wahid and comprising Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, issued the ruling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The bench heard cases concerning Imran Khan’s access to his sisters and personal physicians, as well as his medical record. The development follows renewed concerns over Khan\u2019s health, particularly his eyesight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A report submitted to the Supreme Court by Adiala Jail authorities said his right-eye condition had improved following treatment at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), with his vision described as \u201calmost normal”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PTI, however, rejected the jail authorities\u2019 assessment and continued to demand treatment under the supervision of Imran Khan\u2019s personal doctors at Shifa International Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The bench ordered that there should be a complete medical examination of the 73-year-old former prime minister. Dr Faisal Sultan and Dr Azma Khan are to accompany Imran Khan to the hospital as part of the medical arrangements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It also directed that a medical board be constituted and all tests of Imran Khan should be conducted at Shifa Hospital. It also made it clear that there should not be no politics on Imran\u2019s shifting to a hospital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The court also allowed Imran Khan\u2019s meetings with his family members once in a week. However, it warned that if there was any misuse of these meetings, the court may withdraw its order.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The court said that an eye specialist, a general physician and Dr Faisal Sultan should be members of the medical board. It further ruled that Imran\u2019s family would bear the expenditures of his treatment in the hospital. The court said that neither the PTI founder\u2019s family nor his lawyers would share his medical report with the media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the other hand, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja prohibited the party workers from visiting the hospital. Raja and Shahid Khattak assured the court that there would be no political activity outside the hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The federal government objected to the shifting of the PTI founder to a hospital. The additional attorney general said the court had not even issued a notice.
