Three prisoners at Adiala Jail have approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking treatment at private hospitals and permission to contact their families, following the Supreme Court\u2019s order concerning similar facilities for PTI founder Imran Khan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the Islamabad High Court issued notices to the Adiala Jail superintendent and sought a response on the petitions filed by inmates Ilyas Khan, Muhammad Ismail Khan and Owais Altaf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Justice Muhammad Asif heard the petitions. During the hearing, Barrister Akhtar Cheena told the court that one of the petitioners suffers from haemophilia and internal bleeding. He said the prisoner had been taken to hospital 10 times in the past two months but had shown no improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The lawyer said treatment for the disease was currently available in Pakistan only at Shifa International Hospital. Referring to the Supreme Court\u2019s decision, he argued that a prisoner could be shifted to a private hospital if the required treatment was not available at a government hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the Supreme Court had also made it clear that family members could bear the cost of treatment. The lawyer requested the court to order the formation of a medical board in light of the Supreme Court ruling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Counsel for petitioner Owais Altaf, Syed Jaffar, appeared before the court through video link. He said Altaf was suffering from fever and a heart condition and that treatment was not available at a government hospital. He requested an order for his transfer to Shifa International Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The lawyer representing Muhammad Ismail said his client had been imprisoned at Adiala Jail for nine years. He said Ismail had a brother living in Dubai and had not been in contact with him for years. The lawyer requested the court to direct jail authorities to allow Ismail to speak to his brother through a WhatsApp call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
