They said the increase in wholesale prices is subsequently being reflected in retail prices.

According to traders, the prices of several commonly used vegetables have increased significantly. Pumpkin, which was previously being sold at around Rs150 per kilogram, has risen to Rs200.

Cauliflower has increased from Rs150 to Rs220 per kilogram, while cabbage has gone up from Rs150 to Rs250 per kilogram. Fenugreek, which was priced at approximately Rs300 per kilogram, is now being sold for around Rs400.

Green capsicum has also become more expensive, with its price rising from Rs300 to Rs350 per kilogram. Onion prices have increased from Rs120 to Rs200 per kilogram, while tomatoes have risen from Rs200 to as much as Rs250 per kilogram.

The increase has also affected the fruit market. Shopkeepers reported that the prices of fruit cartons and crates have risen by between Rs1,000 and Rs2,000, adding to the overall cost for retailers and consumers.

A six-kilogram carton of peaches is being sold for around Rs950, according to traders. The price of a box of apples has increased from Rs2,000 to Rs3,000.

Mango prices have also risen sharply. Traders said a carton that previously cost around Rs3,000 is now being sold for approximately Rs5,000.

The price of grapes has increased as well, with a carton rising from around Rs4,500 to Rs5,000.

Retailers attributed the latest price increases primarily to higher wholesale market rates. They said they were purchasing vegetables and fruits at increased prices and therefore had little room to sell them at the previous rates.

The sudden rise in the prices of basic food items is likely to place additional pressure on household budgets, particularly for families that rely heavily on fresh vegetables and fruits as part of their daily diet.

Vegetables such as onions and tomatoes are widely used in Pakistani households, meaning that even relatively moderate increases in their prices can have a noticeable impact on monthly food expenses.

The increase in fruit prices is also significant because retailers are reporting substantial rises in the prices of entire cartons and crates. These higher wholesale costs can quickly translate into higher retail prices.

The latest increases come amid broader concerns about the cost of living and food inflation. Consumers in Lahore have repeatedly complained about fluctuations in the prices of essential commodities and differences between official and market rates.

Shopkeepers, however, maintain that they are not solely responsible for the higher retail prices. They argue that when wholesale markets raise their rates, retailers must either increase their selling prices or absorb losses.

The price differences reported by traders also highlight the importance of monitoring the supply chain from wholesale markets to retail outlets. Effective market oversight can help determine whether increases are driven by genuine supply and demand conditions, transportation costs or other factors.

Consumers are now facing higher costs for a wide range of fresh produce. With several vegetables recording increases of dozens of rupees per kilogram and some fruit cartons becoming thousands of rupees more expensive, households are likely to feel additional pressure on their food budgets.

The situation may also change depending on market supplies in the coming days. Improved arrivals of vegetables and fruits could potentially ease prices, while supply disruptions or increased demand could keep prices elevated.

For now, traders say the higher prices are originating at the wholesale level. They have maintained that vegetables and fruits are reaching their shops at significantly higher rates, leaving them with little choice but to pass at least part of the increase on to consumers.

The sharp rise in fresh-produce prices has once again brought attention to the need for effective market monitoring and measures to prevent unjustified price increases. Consumers will be hoping for improved supplies and more stable wholesale rates to bring some relief to the market.

LAHORE: A sharp increase has been recorded in the prices of vegetables and fruits in Lahore, with retailers reporting increases of between Rs100 and Rs150..

[3

post-12374","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-pakistan
https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/11111-2026-08-23T152613.736.png",800,927,false
https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/11111-2026-08-23T152613.736-150x150.png",150,150,true
https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/11111-2026-08-23T152613.736-259x300.png",259,300,true
https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/11111-2026-08-23T152613.736-768x890.png",768,890,true
https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/11111-2026-08-23T152613.736.png",800,927,false],"1536x1536":["https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/11111-2026-08-23T152613.736.png",800,927,false],"2048x2048":["https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/11111-2026-08-23T152613.736.png",800,927,false
admin
["GET
