Islamabad:<\/strong> Federal Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has said that the decision to transfer former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS)<\/strong> was taken after he left Adiala Jail, following an assessment of the security situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on Geo News programme Naya Pakistan<\/em>, Chaudhry said the decision was made by the Islamabad administration and police<\/strong> after considering the security circumstances surrounding Imran Khan’s movement from the jail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the federal minister, the authorities initially had to consider arrangements for Imran Khan’s medical examination, but the security situation was assessed after his departure from Adiala Jail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that security agencies responsible for guaranteeing protection must also be taken into account when major movements involving high-profile individuals are planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf the institutions responsible for providing security refuse to take responsibility, their position has to be listened to,\u201d Chaudhry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His remarks provide the government’s explanation for why Imran Khan was taken to PIMS rather than Shifa International Hospital, despite the Supreme Court’s earlier direction concerning his medical examination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The issue has become a major point of disagreement between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. PTI has argued that the Supreme Court had specifically ordered Imran Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital and has challenged the government’s decision to take him to PIMS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The party has also filed a contempt petition before the Supreme Court, alleging that the court’s directions were not properly followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government, however, maintains that the decision was based on security considerations and was taken by the Islamabad administration and police. Chaudhry’s comments suggest that the authorities responsible for security raised concerns after Imran Khan’s movement from Adiala Jail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Imran Khan was subsequently examined at PIMS before being returned to Adiala Jail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PIMS later said that its relevant specialists participated in the medical examination, while two specialists from Shifa International Hospital<\/strong> took part specifically in the examination of Imran Khan’s eyes. The hospital said that the findings from the eye examination were considered alongside other medical investigations before a PIMS medical board finalized a medical fitness report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PIMS has declined to disclose the confidential details of that report, citing patient confidentiality and the Supreme Court’s directions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government’s explanation is likely to be relevant to the contempt proceedings sought by PTI. The Supreme Court may have to examine whether security concerns justified the change in the location of the medical examination and whether the government’s actions complied with the wording and intent of its earlier order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chaudhry’s statement also indicates that the decision was not, according to the government’s account, made by the federal government alone. He specifically attributed the decision to the Islamabad administration and police after the security situation was assessed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dispute therefore centers on two competing positions. PTI argues that the court’s specified hospital should have been used, while the government says security concerns made an alternative arrangement necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The matter could ultimately be clarified through the Supreme Court proceedings, particularly if the court seeks a detailed explanation from the authorities about the security threat, who raised the concerns and why the original medical-transfer arrangement could not be implemented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For now, the federal government’s position is that Imran Khan’s transfer to PIMS was a security-based decision made after he departed Adiala Jail<\/strong>, rather than a decision intended to disregard the court’s medical directions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
