Riyadh: At the ongoing World Defense Show 2026 in Saudi Arabia, Indian defense technology firm NewSpace Research and Technologies introduced its new \u201cShesh Naag\u201d series of loitering munitions (suicide drones), including one model that closely resembles Iran\u2019s Shahed-136 drone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The newly revealed systems include the Shesh Naag 150 and the Shesh Naag 20. Among them, the Shesh Naag 150 was prominently showcased as a long-range autonomous strike drone designed to serve as a low-cost alternative to cruise missiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the company, the Shesh Naag 150 has a range exceeding 1,000 kilometers and can carry a payload between 25 and 40 kilograms. It features a delta-wing design optimized for long endurance flights of approximately five hours, as well as improved speed and aerodynamic efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The drone is equipped with advanced autonomous capabilities and swarm-based operational features, enabling multiple units to coordinate and execute missions collectively. The company claims the system is intended to serve as an alternative to platforms such as Israel\u2019s Harop and Iran\u2019s Shahed-136, and is designed to target high-value assets including command posts and air defense systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Observers at the exhibition noted the visual and structural similarities between the Shesh Naag 150 and the Iranian Shahed-136, particularly in terms of its delta-wing configuration and overall airframe design. However, the company has positioned the system as an indigenous development tailored to meet modern battlefield requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to the Shesh Naag 150, NewSpace also introduced the Shesh Naag 20, a smaller, electrically powered loitering munition designed for tactical-level operations. Unlike its larger counterpart, the Shesh Naag 20 is canister-launched and can be rapidly deployed from ground units or vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Shesh Naag 20 has an operational range of up to 30 kilometers and an endurance of approximately one hour. With a wingspan of 2 meters and a maximum weight of 20 kilograms, the drone can carry a warhead weighing up to 5 kilograms. It is equipped with advanced electro-optical and infrared cameras to assist in surveillance, reconnaissance, and target identification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Powered by an electric propulsion system, the Shesh Naag 20 can reach speeds of up to 150 kilometers per hour and operate at altitudes of up to 6,000 meters. Its compact size and mobility make it suitable for precision strikes in tactical battlefield environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The unveiling of the Shesh Naag series highlights India\u2019s growing focus on indigenous defense production and unmanned combat systems. Loitering munitions have become increasingly significant in modern warfare due to their relatively low cost, flexibility, and effectiveness against strategic targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
