ISLAMABAD \u2014 August 20, 2026:<\/strong> Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman<\/strong> has warned that his party will intensify its actions if the government refuses to reconsider the levy imposed on petroleum products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Hafiz Naeem said the government\u2019s overall system was failing to deliver adequate services to the public. He argued that weaknesses in governance and the failure of the system were among the reasons Pakistan was forced to accept conditions set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He criticized the petroleum levy, describing it as an additional financial burden on the public. According to Hafiz Naeem, the original purpose of introducing the levy was to reduce the cost of petroleum products, but the mechanism was now contributing to higher prices for consumers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jamaat-e-Islami leader said that if the government did not back down on the levy issue, his party would move forward with further action. He called for the levy to be withdrawn to provide relief to consumers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hafiz Naeem also questioned the recent reduction in diesel prices. He said that although the price of diesel was reduced by Rs30 per litre<\/strong>, the reduction should have been as much as Rs130<\/strong>, according to his assessment. He claimed that if the levy were abolished, petroleum product prices could potentially fall to between Rs200 and Rs250<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discussing electricity prices, Hafiz Naeem said negotiations with Independent Power Producers (IPPs)<\/strong> could also help reduce electricity costs by up to 30 percent. He pointed out that load-shedding was still continuing in the country while consumers were nevertheless being charged capacity payments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jamaat-e-Islami emir also claimed that the government had approached the party regarding negotiations. He said the issue would be considered in the context of the party\u2019s demands and its position on public relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hafiz Naeem further commented on the political situation, saying that the Supreme Court\u2019s decision regarding Imran Khan<\/strong> should have been delivered earlier. He called for the release of the PTI founder and other political prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His remarks come amid continued debate over petroleum prices, taxation, electricity costs, IMF-linked economic measures, and demands by political parties for greater relief for consumers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
