KARACHI: A couple, Adnan Soomro and Zakiya Nohpoto, who married by choice in Thari Mirwah, has appealed to the authorities for protection, claiming they face threats from their relatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking to the media outside the Karachi Press Club, Zakiya said she had married Adnan of her own free will and with her consent, and that she had neither been kidnapped nor held captive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The couple said their marriage took place around one and a half years ago and alleged that a kidnapping and illegal confinement petition filed in Khairpur was false. They claimed the petition had been filed to force them to appear in court, where, they feared, they could be attacked or kidnapped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zakiya alleged that her brother Muhammad Naeem, Faheem, Abdul Shakoor, her father Shafi Muhammad, and other maternal and paternal relatives arrived at their house in an unregistered Toyota Corolla and opened fire. She said Zulfiqar Soomro was injured by a bullet, while the attackers allegedly ran over two women with their vehicle while fleeing the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said she feared for her life from her father, brothers Shafi Muhammad, Naeem Nohpoto, Faheem Nohpoto, uncles and other relatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The woman appealed to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and the Inspector General of Sindh Police to provide the couple with immediate protection and take legal action against those allegedly involved in the attacks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
