Confusion has emerged regarding gas prices for the current fiscal year as the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) issued contradictory statements on the matter.
Initially, an OGRA spokesperson announced that the average gas price for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) would be reduced by 3%, and for Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) by 8%. According to the spokesperson, the revised proposed rates were Rs. 1804.08 per MMBTU for Sui Northern and Rs. 1549.41 per MMBTU for Sui Southern. The spokesperson added that OGRA would issue the official notification regarding the gas prices after receiving advice from the federal government.
Later reports, however, suggested different figures: Rs. 1852.80 per MMBTU for Sui Northern and Rs. 1777.02 per MMBTU for Sui Southern, indicating a possible increase rather than a decrease.
In a subsequent clarification, OGRA’s spokesperson stated that the earlier reports created a false impression regarding gas pricing. No changes have been approved, and gas prices will remain at their existing rates for both Sui Northern and Sui Southern.
This series of conflicting statements has caused uncertainty among consumers and industry stakeholders, who are awaiting the official notification to confirm the actual rates. OGRA has emphasized that any change in gas pricing will only be implemented after formal approval from the federal government.
