Karachi, October 25, 2025 – From the Office of Additional IGP Karachi
In a significant step towards advancing modern policing and community safety, Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Police Karachi, Javed Alam Odho, inaugurated a state-of-the-art Command and Control Center at Darakhshan Police Station, established under the Community Policing Karachi (CPK) initiative. The facility features 250 high-tech CCTV cameras, including advanced Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras designed to enhance surveillance and criminal detection capabilities in the South Zone.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by DIG Traffic Karachi, SSP South, SSP Central, SSP City, and several other senior police officials. Prominent members of the Community Policing Karachi leadership were also present, including Chief CPK and Justice of Peace Murad Soni, Chief CPK DHA/Clifton Ahmad Mubashir, Deputy Chief CPK South Zeeshan Habib, Deputy Chief CPK Aamir Chotani, Deputy Chief CPK (Admin) Aqeek Iqbal, and members of the CPK team — Kamran Habib, Faisal Rashid, Umar Butt, Arsalan Farooqui, Aamir, Hammad Puri, Mustafa, Irfan Abubakar, Saad, Taimoor Mustafa, and Fahad.
During the briefing session, Chief CPK Murad Soni highlighted the key objectives of the project, explaining that the primary aim of this modern surveillance network is to prevent crimes, monitor suspicious activities, and ensure swift detection and arrest of criminals in real-time. He further stated that the initiative would serve as a model for other districts, reflecting a strong partnership between the Karachi Police and the citizens’ community network.
Speaking at the ceremony, AIG Karachi Javed Alam Odho commended the initiative, stating that the advanced CPK system will bring about significant improvements in police operational efficiency. He remarked,
“All developed countries rely on surveillance technology for effective law enforcement. Punjab introduced a similar system a decade ago and has since expanded it tremendously. When we began considering such a system for Karachi, we were fortunate to have found partners like Murad Soni and his team, who volunteered to help us implement this project.”
He added that currently, Command and Control Centers are operational in 16 police stations across Karachi, resulting in a noticeable reduction in street crimes and other criminal activities. Odho praised the professional dedication and public-spirited approach of Murad Soni and his team, describing their efforts as a remarkable example of community collaboration for urban security.
The newly inaugurated system integrates real-time monitoring, incident alerting, and rapid response mechanisms, enabling the police to track suspicious vehicles and individuals more effectively. The inclusion of ANPR high-resolution cameras allows automatic identification of vehicle registration plates, making it easier to trace stolen cars, identify suspects, and collect evidence during investigations.
Odho further emphasized that this partnership model between the Karachi Police and Community Policing Karachi symbolizes a new era of cooperation, where public participation strengthens the police’s technological capabilities. “The community’s active involvement in supporting law enforcement is crucial. Such collaborations bridge the gap between the police and the people, making Karachi safer for all,” he said.
