Karachi: In a major development for Karachi’s public transport infrastructure, Federal Government Spokesperson for Sindh, Raja Khaleeq Ansari, has announced that construction work on the Green Line project is set to resume soon, bringing long-awaited relief to daily commuters in the city.
Speaking to Geo News, Ansari confirmed that a recent meeting at the Prime Minister’s House comprehensively reviewed the progress of the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. “All pending matters identified by the local government are being addressed,” he said, assuring citizens that the government is committed to completing the project without further unnecessary delays.
Completion Expected by September 2026
According to the spokesperson, the Green Line project — which had faced multiple interruptions — will now be completed by September 2026, about one month later than initially planned.
“The delay is minimal, and we are confident that the remaining technical and administrative issues will be resolved quickly,” Ansari added. He revealed that the project will include a new station near Capri Cinema and Plaza, while the final station will be located close to Jama Cloth, marking the southern endpoint of the Green Line corridor.
He said that the plan aims to connect key commercial and residential zones, providing better urban mobility and reducing traffic congestion in central Karachi.
Clarification Over NOC Controversy
Raja Khaleeq Ansari also addressed confusion regarding the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the project. Karachi Mayor had earlier claimed that the NOC had not been renewed. However, Ansari clarified:
“The NOC was originally issued in 2017, when the current Mayor was not in office. The document carried no expiry date, so it remains valid. The federal government has proceeded under the understanding that the original NOC is still applicable.”
He emphasized that coordination with municipal authorities remains essential, and both sides are working to ensure that bureaucratic hurdles do not affect the progress of development projects in Karachi.
