Toronto, October 18, 2025:
A shocking act of violence has shaken the Muslim community in Oshawa, Canada, where 80-year-old Ibrahim Bala, a founding member of a local Islamic Center, was murdered near the mosque he helped establish.
According to international media reports, Bala was found dead just steps away from the mosque premises late Friday evening. Local police confirmed his death but said that the motive behind the killing remains unclear at this stage of the investigation.
Community in Shock and Mourning
Members of the Oshawa Muslim community described Ibrahim Bala as a respected elder, community leader, and philanthropist who had devoted decades to promoting interfaith harmony and social welfare. The news of his murder has left worshippers and residents in deep grief and disbelief.
“He was a kind, humble man who always encouraged unity and compassion,” said one member of the mosque’s administration. “To lose him this way is unbearable for us.”
Police Investigation Underway
Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation, sealing off the area near the mosque as forensic teams collected evidence throughout the night. Officers are also reviewing CCTV footage from nearby buildings and have appealed to the public for any information related to the incident.
While officials have not ruled out any possibilities, police say it is too early to determine whether the killing was motivated by hate, robbery, or a personal dispute.
Reactions and Condemnations
Canadian Muslim organizations and interfaith groups have strongly condemned the killing, urging law enforcement agencies to treat the case with utmost seriousness. The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) called for a transparent and speedy investigation, emphasizing the need to ensure safety around places of worship.
