In the town of Jarwar, journalists and writers staged a protest demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible for the murders of journalists Tufail Rind and Imtiaz Mir. The demonstration took place at the main square of Jarwar, where local journalists, writers, and members of civil society gathered to raise their voices against the rising violence targeting media professionals in Sindh.
The protest was led by Manzoor Mashori, Ali Gohar Gabol, Akram Bozdar, Naeem Mashori, and Maqsood Gabol, along with other local activists. Participants carried placards and chanted slogans condemning the killings of journalists and criticizing the authorities for their failure to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The protesters stated that four days have passed since the murder of Mirpur Mathelo–based journalist Tufail Rind, yet police have failed to arrest the main suspect. They also highlighted that it has been nearly a month since the brutal killing of journalist Imtiaz Mir, but the culprits remain at large.
Speakers at the protest lamented that journalists across Sindh, including in Ghotki district, are being targeted, threatened, and murdered while the provincial government continues to fail in ensuring their safety. They accused law enforcement agencies of negligence and inaction, saying such failures only embolden those behind the attacks on the press.
The protesters called for urgent and transparent investigations into the killings of both journalists and demanded the immediate arrest of all suspects. They also appealed to the Sindh Chief Minister and Inspector General of Police to personally intervene and ensure justice is served without political interference.
Participants vowed to continue their struggle until the killers of Tufail Rind and Imtiaz Mir are arrested and brought to justice, emphasizing that freedom of the press must be protected and that journalists should not be left vulnerable to threats and violence while performing their professional duties.
The demonstration concluded with a warning that if the killers are not apprehended soon, the protest movement will expand across Sindh, uniting journalists from all districts in a collective campaign for justice and protection of media workers.
