Mumbai: Legendary Indian actress Sandhya Shantaram, wife of renowned filmmaker V. Shantaram, has passed away at the age of 87.
According to Indian media, the veteran actress breathed her last in Mumbai on Friday evening. Her final rites were performed on Saturday.
Sandhya Shantaram was celebrated for her acting as well as her exceptional dancing skills, which won her admiration in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. Her grace, versatility, and artistry earned her a special place in Indian cinema during its golden era.
She worked in both Hindi and Marathi films, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances. Among her most iconic works are the 1955 classic Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje and the 1957 film Do Aankhen Barah Haath, both of which remain landmarks in Indian film history.
Her demise marks the end of an era for the Indian film industry, with tributes pouring in from fellow artists, fans, and cultural figures who remembered her as a pioneer of Indian dance and cinema.
