Hyderabad’s Government College University’s Department of Sindhi held a thought-provoking seminar under the theme “Understanding Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s Poetry in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” The event brought together eminent scholars, writers, musicians, and students, who collectively emphasized that the timeless wisdom of Shah Latif continues to serve as a beacon of light and human values even in today’s rapidly changing technological world.
Shah Latif: A Universal Poet Beyond Eras
Delivering the presidential address, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Amjad Ali Arain declared Shah Abdul Latif not only the poet of Sindh but of the entire world. He said Shah Latif’s message transcends the limits of time and space, speaking directly to humanity’s eternal quest for justice, love, and truth. Dr. Arain noted that the seminar’s discourse provided valuable knowledge and responses to many contemporary questions. “Latif is the sun of Sindhi poetry, radiating light that illuminates the whole world,” he remarked. He expressed pride that the university had become a platform for such a meaningful discussion on Latif’s philosophy in the context of modern challenges.
Relevance of Shah Latif in the Age of AI
Director of the Abdul Majid Bhurgri Institute of Language Engineering, Mr. Amar Fayaz Buriro, spoke about the dangers of technology reducing human beings to mere machines. He stressed that in such times, it is vital to popularize Shah Latif’s poetry, which restores human dignity and spiritual connection. Buriro shared that his institute has developed “Bhittai-pedia,” an online project that makes Shah Jo Risalo available in 230 world languages, giving Latif’s message global reach through the internet.
Renowned writer and academic Prof. Shabnam Gul reflected on how Latif portrayed the ascetic “jogi” as a symbol of wisdom. She emphasized that studying Latif in the AI era is not optional but necessary, as it helps people rediscover their identity and sustain their cultural values amid globalization and machine dominance.
Dr. Fayaz Latif, Director of the Institute of Sindhology, described Shah Latif as a poet who transforms societies. He explained that Bhittai’s poetry not only reflects social realities but also shows the path toward change. “Latif removes fears from hearts and inspires courage. He is a guide to success, equally relevant in the AI-driven world,” Dr. Fayaz noted.
Eternal Relevance of Shah Latif’s Poetry
Chairman of the Sindhi Department, Dr. Ihsan Danish, underlined that Shah Latif’s poetry is never outdated; it remains fresh across centuries. He quoted Latif’s timeless advice: “Do not remain deprived, become skillful,” linking it with the current era where skills and knowledge are crucial for survival and progress. He concluded that this makes Latif not just the poet of the past, but of the present and future as well.
Cultural Colors of the Event
The seminar began on a spiritual note with renowned vocalist Saeed Samejo performing Shah Latif’s traditional wai. Following this, students Ushaq Ali Buriro, Sehr Rind, and Shoaib Khan presented speeches on Latif’s philosophy and its application in modern times. The program was skillfully conducted by Pervez Ali Bughio and Kainat Chandio, who added charm and coordination to the proceedings.
A Living Legacy
Speakers unanimously agreed that Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s poetry is a source of light, resilience, and wisdom for all generations. In an age where artificial intelligence and technology reshape daily life, Shah Latif’s message of humanity, self-awareness, and moral courage remains an essential guiding force.
